No. 1 UM-Dearborn Cruises Past Penn State, 6-0, in CCWHA Quarterfinals
The Wolverines take on Indiana Tech on Saturday at 4 pm in the semifinals.
DEARBORN, Mich. – Top-seeded University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team delivered a commanding postseason statement Friday afternoon, shutting out Penn State, 6-0, in the CCWHA Tournament Quarterfinals at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center.
The Wolverines wasted no time asserting control, scoring three times in the opening period and never looking back in a wire-to-wire victory.
Grace Adriaanse opened the scoring just 1:26 into the contest, netting what would stand as the game-winning goal and setting the tone early. Minutes later, Cadence Pero capitalized on a power play opportunity, finishing off a feed from Zoe Zaifman to double the advantage. UM-Dearborn's special teams continued to shine late in the period, as Pallavi Hari buried another power play tally to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead after one.
Michigan-Dearborn maintained its momentum in the second period despite a more physical stretch of play. Maddison McIndoo extended the lead to four with 4:46 remaining in the frame, converting off assists from Andi Evers and Ellee Kloian.
The Wolverines added two more goals in the third to put the finishing touches on the dominant performance. Charlise Wharram scored early in the period off another assist from Zaifman, while Evers capped the scoring at the 16:30 mark with her 15th goal of the season, assisted by Megan Kosempel.
UM-Dearborn's power play proved decisive, converting twice in the opening period, while the defense turned in a flawless effort. The Wolverines turned in a rare postseason shutout after Kenna Borso didn't allow a single goal in 60 minutes of work.
