No. 1 UM-Dearborn Dominate LSSU 6-1 to Advance to CCWHA Tournament Championship
In dominant fashion, the University of Michigan-Dearborn women’s hockey team punched its ticket to the CCWHA Tournament Championship with a 6-0 semifinal victory over Lake Superior State University on Saturday evening.
DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's hockey team delivered a commanding performance in the CCWHA Tournament Semifinals, shutting down Lake Superior State University, 6-1, at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center.
With a championship berth on the line, UM-Dearborn controlled the pace from the outset. The Wolverines outshot LSSU 16-7 in the first period and struck twice to seize early momentum. Pallavi Hari opened the scoring at 9:56, finishing off assists from Grace Taylor and Zoe Zaifman. Just over three minutes later, Cadence Pero buried a power-play goal to give UM-Dearborn a 2-0 edge after one.
The Wolverines extended their lead in the second period when Hari netted her second goal of the night on the power play at 12:16, capitalizing on assists from Charlise Wharram and Pero.
UM-Dearborn put the game out of reach in the third. Andi Evers converted on the power play early in the period, Taylor added a goal midway through the frame, and Pero sealed the semifinal victory with a shorthanded tally to make it 6-1.
Special teams played a pivotal role in the win. The Wolverines went 3-for-5 on the power play and added a shorthanded goal, while holding LSSU scoreless on three power-play opportunities. UM-Dearborn finished with a decisive 50-25 advantage in shots on goal.
Kenna Borso stopped 25 shots en route to her second win of the postseason.
The Wolverines will take on Indiana Tech in the CCWHA Tournament on Sunday. The puck drop is set for 2 pm.
