Late Rally, Overtime Power Play Lift No. 3 Wolverines Past No. 6 Adrian
Zoe Zaifman sniped home the winning goal in overtime against No. 6 Adrian on Friday (Jan. 23).
DEARBORN, Mich. -- The No. 3 University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team continued its strong season with a dramatic 2–1 overtime victory against No.6 Adrian (ACHA D1), using sustained pressure and timely scoring to complete the comeback.
Adrian opened the scoring late in the first period, as Genessie Williams found the back of the net at 17:13 to give the visitors a 1–0 lead. The second period remained scoreless despite consistent offensive-zone time from UM-Dearborn, with Adrian goaltender Rieley Jessie-Gerell keeping the Wolverines off the scoreboard.
UM-Dearborn broke through in the third period, finally converting on its pressure when Charlise Wharram tied the game at 15:48 off an assist from Zoe Zaifman. The equalizer shifted momentum firmly in favor of the Wolverines, who continued to push and outshoot Adrian down the stretch.
The game was decided quickly in overtime. Just 15 seconds into the extra period, Zaifman scored on the power play, finishing a setup from Pallavi Hari and Cadence Pero to secure the win. Zaifman finished the night with a goal and an assist, while Wharram added the game-tying goal in the third.
Kenna Borso was solid in net for UM-Dearborn, stopping 26 of 27 shots to earn the victory. The Wolverines held a decisive 42–27 edge in shots and went 1-for-4 on the power play, while limiting Adrian to no goals on two power-play opportunities.
With the win, UM-Dearborn improved to 21-2-0 overall and remained perfect in conference play at 9-0-0, continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
