Historic Season Ends in Semifinals Against Reigning National Champions
Michigan-Dearborn’s historic postseason run came to a close on the national stage Saturday, as the Wolverines battled defending champion Liberty in the ACHA semifinals.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team saw its historic run at the ACHA National Tournament come to an end on Saturday, falling 5-0 to reigning national champion Liberty University in the semifinal round.
Facing one of the premier programs in ACHA Division I, the Wolverines battled throughout but were unable to break through against a disciplined Liberty squad.
After a scoreless opening period, Liberty capitalized in the second, scoring three times—including two power play goals—to take control of the game. The Flames added a pair of goals in the third period to extend the lead.
Michigan-Dearborn generated opportunities offensively, finishing with 29 shots on goal, but were turned away by Liberty's goaltending. In net, Kenna Borso delivered another strong performance, making 48 saves while facing 53 shots.
Special teams proved to be a difference, with Liberty converting twice on the power play while the Wolverines were held scoreless on three opportunities.
Despite the result, Michigan-Dearborn's run to the Frosty Four marks a significant milestone for the program. The Wolverines not only reached the national semifinals for the first time in program history, but did so after entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed and knocking off higher-seeded competition along the way.
The 2025-26 squad established a new benchmark for the program, setting a standard for future teams and cementing its place as one of the most accomplished groups in Michigan-Dearborn women's hockey history.
