SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team dominated both ends of the ice over the weekend, earning back-to-back shutout victories over Lake Superior State University to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Wolverines outscored the Lakers 8–0 across the two games, while goaltenders Kenna Borso and Nicole Alexander combined for 35 total saves and consecutive clean sheets.
Game One – Michigan-Dearborn 4, Lake Superior State 0
On Saturday night, the Wolverines struck for three goals in the second period and never looked back.
After a scoreless opening frame, Cadence Pero broke the deadlock just over two minutes into the second period, capitalizing on a power play with help from Ashley Savage. Minutes later, Zoe Zaifman doubled the lead on another power play, assisted by Pero. Maddison McIndoo added a third goal midway through the frame, finishing a setup from Taylor Spence and Sydney Gillen.
In the third period, Savage found the back of the net on the power play—her first of the year—off assists from Zaifman and Andi Evers, sealing the 4–0 win.
Between the pipes, Kenna Borso turned aside all 14 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the season.
UM-Dearborn finished 3-for-6 on the power play while holding Lake Superior State scoreless on their six opportunities.
Game Two – Michigan-Dearborn 4, Lake Superior State 0
The Wolverines' offense carried their momentum into Sunday's matinee, firing 47 shots on goal in another commanding performance.
Grace Adriaanse opened the scoring early in the second period, converting a feed from Maya Ferracciolo and Megan Kosempel for what would stand as the game-winner. In the third, Stephanie Hatch doubled the lead just over two minutes in with her first of the season, before Nicole Hahn and Sydney Gillen added goals to stretch the margin to four. Hahn also registered an assist, while Hatch picked up a helper on Gillen's tally.
Nicole Alexander earned her first shutout of the season, stopping all 21 shots she faced in a full 60 minutes of play.
UM-Dearborn held LSSU to 0-for-5 on the power play, while eight different Wolverines recorded points in the win.
