UM-Dearborn Drops Two in FHU Labor Day Classic

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team came up short in a pair of matches on Friday, falling in straight sets to Fisk University (25-21, 25-18, 25-15) and the University of Tennessee Southern (25-13, 25-10, 25-16) at the Brewer Sports Center.
In the opener against Fisk, the Wolverines battled in the first set before the Bulldogs pulled away late. Abigail Goldobin led UM-Dearborn with 11 kills, while Marisa Fetterley added six and hit .600. Setter Nalani Schanz dished out 23 assists, and Laura Chandler recorded a team-high nine digs. Despite their efforts, UM-Dearborn hit just .129 as a team while Fisk posted an efficient .329 attack percentage.
Against Tennessee Southern, the Wolverines struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Fetterley again paced the attack with seven kills, while Monti Rotter chipped in with a balanced performance of a kill, two assists, and six digs. UM-Dearborn was limited to a -.014 hitting percentage, while the Firehawks were strong at the net with a .317 attack rate and 15 service aces.
With the setbacks, Michigan-Dearborn falls to 1-5 on the season. The Wolverines continue non-conference play on Saturday in Henderson.
