MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of setbacks Friday, falling in straight sets to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and Mount Marty University at the Mount Mary Blue Angel Bash.
In the opener against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, the Wolverines struggled to find rhythm offensively, hitting -.015 as a team in a 25-13, 25-10, 25-19 loss. Senior outside hitter Abigail Goldobin led UM-Dearborn with nine kills while hitting .300, while Monti Rotter added two service aces. Despite showing more energy in the third set, the Wolverines couldn't overcome the Pomeroys' efficient attack, as St. Mary-of-the-Woods hit .294 for the match.
The nightcap saw UM-Dearborn battle Mount Marty closely through the first two sets before falling 25-21, 25-21, 25-8. Marisa Fetterley paced the Wolverines with eight kills, while Princess Savage chipped in five. Rotter again sparked the serving line with a match-high five aces, but UM-Dearborn was undone by 27 attack errors, finishing with a -.061 hitting percentage. Mount Marty closed strong, hitting .520 in the final set to secure the sweep.
UM-Dearborn moves to 0-2 on the young season and will look to regroup as it continues play in nonconference competition.
